Owners Sharon McGehee and Lio Magat created the Aspects Gallery Partnership in their Manhattan townhouse soon after they married in 2000. The space served as a gallery and workspace for their many artistic endeavors
Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the couple decided it would be best to relocate Aspects, and found that the Hudson Valley was the right fit. While visiting their friends, Kristin Meyer and Lucy Scala of Woodstock Haircuts, they were told that the three-story, 1910 Colonial home, located across the street from the flea market in the heart of Woodstock, was for sale. “The home had been divided into four rental units and had housed numerous Woodstock artists and musicians over the years, including the drug dealer for Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin—it was perfect,” said Sharon. “Even our standard poodle, Sade, expressed enthusiastic approval by running three times around the house.”
Sharon and Lio worked with friends, family, and local contractors and artisans to restore the home to its former glory, and then set their sight on their dream pool house. Contractors, local designers, architects, and artisans were called in to turn vision into reality. After 18 months of construction, their “personal Shangri-la” was complete and after much interest from many Woodstockians, Aspects Inn & Spa opened to the public.
The spa and living area reflect Sharon and Lio’s vision, from the antique and eclectic guest rooms to the Italian lighting, detailed wood and stone work, and modern heating and energy solution in the spa area. Propane is used to heat the natural saline pool and centrally-heated spa. They installed a natural ionized filter Jacuzzi and therapeutic infrared sauna and added six rain barrels under the gutters to collect rain water. Lio and Sharon plan to add solar panels on the roof.
In addition to running the beautiful Aspects Inn & Spa, Sharon and Lio continue to excel in their true passions. Sharon’s book Raging Bull II the sequel to the 1980 acclaimed film “Raging Bull” is scheduled for 2010 production with Sunset Pictures and her true crime book Bodies of Evidence is being featured in a special on “Women on Death Row” on the WE channel in March. Lio, who also happens to be a graduate of the prestigious Vatel culinary school in his native Lyon, France, and worked as sommelier for renowned chef Paul Bocuse in the French Riviera for three years, begins shooting the pilot for his cooking show spectacle, set in the spa, entitled “Chez Lio” for the Food Channel in February.
The couple invites you to share their personal paradise. Take advantage of all that art and culture historic Woodstock, NY and the Catskill Mountains have to offer.
